CHIEF ACTUARY

Job Description:

The Chief Actuary is responsible for providing the leadership, process, and direction of actuarial projects within the Actuarial Services department. The Chief Actuary will report to the VP of Actuarial and Healthcare Economics and is responsible for all actuarial functions including the Medicare Bid process, actuarial pricing, trend studies, as well as revenue and healthcare cost forecasting.

 

Responsibilities Include:

• Oversight of the Medicare Bid filing process. Will work in tandem with the Product team in planning and executing the Bid process to successful and timely completion. The Chief Actuary will organize and run the entire process and will be required to certify and sign-off on the completed Bids.

• Manage the overall actuarial pricing function of the Plan. This includes pricing of new or existing products and new benefits.

• Development and oversight of revenue and healthcare cost forecasting. This includes the annual budget process, mid-year forecasting, and multi-year future forecasts used in long term planning.

• Management and development of the contract pricing model used to estimate unit cost changes in negotiations of network/provider contracts, and communicate their impact on cost trend.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

1. Must have background in health care or managed care and a strong understand of the Medicare business.

2. Extensive experience organizing, leading and successfully completing the Medicare Bid filing process.

3. Experience pricing benefits and contracts. Requires an understanding of the tools needed to calculate these values.

4. Experience calculating IBNR Reserve estimates with the knowledge to direct the development of the entire process.

5. Must be either a Fellow or Associate of the Society of Actuaries and well as a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
