Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA
CEO, CareMore Health System
Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA is chief executive officer (CEO) at CareMore Health System, an innovative health plan & care delivery system with $1.2B revenue & over 100,000 members in 8 states. He is also consulting professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine and a contributor at Forbes. Dr. Jain was previously CareMore's chief medical officer (CMO) and chief operating officer (COO).
Prior to joining CareMore, Dr. Jain was Chief Medical Information & Innovation Officer at Merck & Co. He also served as an attending physician at the Boston VA-Boston Medical Center and a member of faculties at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School. From 2009-2011, Dr. Jain worked in the Obama Administration, where he was senior advisor to Donald Berwick when he led the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Dr. Jain was the first deputy director for policy and programs at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). He also served as special assistant to David Blumenthal when he was the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
Dr. Jain graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a BA in government and continued on to earn his MD from Harvard Medical School and MBA from Harvard Business School. He trained in medicine at the Brigham and Women's Medicine, earned his board certification, and continues to practice medicine at CareMore. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) and has published over 100 peer-reviwed articles and in journals such as the New England Journal, JAMA, Health Affairs. He was an editor of the book, The Soul of a Doctor (Algonquin Press). He is co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the Elsevier journal Healthcare: The Journal of Delivery Science & Innovation.
Dr. Jain is a native of Bergen County, New Jersey, but presently resides in Los Angeles, California.
Chief Financial Officer
Michael Plumb has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry and has been with CareMore since 2010. As Chief Financial Officer, he is responsible for all corporate finance and accounting activities and operations nationally. Additional accountabilities include CareMore products and services and leadership of the actuarial and underwriting operations for the organization. Prior to joining CareMore Mr. Plumb held various executive and consulting positions at other healthcare companies including United Healthcare, PacifiCare and Kaiser Health Plan. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, San Diego in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from The Haas School of Business in Berkeley, California.
Chief Development Officer
Rob Lonardo has over 30 years of experience as a Healthcare executive, including his position as Vice President of the Medicare IPA Division at FHP Health Care (acq-United Health Group), and Senior Vice President of Government Programs and National Accounts for Blue Shield of California. In Mr. Lonardo’s current role he is responsible for the company’s growth and development. Prior to Mr. Lonardo’s return to the company in 2013, he also served as CareMore’s Chief Executive Officer between 2004-2007. Mr. Lonardo received his BS in Business Administration from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio and a Master’s in Business Administration from California State University Long Beach, California.
Vice President of Corporate and Business Development
Robbie Pottharst leads development of strategic ventures, partnerships and collaborations for CareMore. In addition, Mr. Pottharst also leads teams that design and build new and innovative products and programs that propagate CareMore's care delivery model capabilities. Prior to joining CareMore, Mr. Pottharst led a $2 billion government programs P&L for Anthem, with responsibility for Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement lines of business across six states. He also served as a management consultant at both Booz & Company (now Strategy) and Deloitte Consulting where he led engagements that focused on growth strategy, innovation, operating model transformation and capability development for a variety of clients that span the health care industry. Mr. Pottharst earned a Bachelor of Science with double major in Managerial Economics and Biology from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Vice President of Human Resources
Supriya Sood joined the CareMore leadership team in 2013 as Staff Vice President (SVP) of Human Resources. As SVP of Human Resources, Ms. Sood is responsible for overseeing all human resources function within CareMore.
Ms. Sood previously served as Vice President of Human Resources for Molina Healthcare, Inc., Tristar Insurance Group and VCA Antech, Inc. Ms. Sood holds a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine. She has served as a board member of the Professionals in HR Association (PIHRA) and as part-time faculty member at the University of Phoenix.
Sophia Chang, MD
Chief Clinical Innovation Officer
Sophia Chang, MD, MPH is the chief clinical innovation officer at CareMore Health System. She oversees advanced practice and primary care and assures that CareMore's core clinical model constantly integrates new clinical insights, developments, and technology. She is the former vice president of programs at the California HealthCare Foundation, where she also directed its chronic disease care programs. Her previous positions include: Vice President of Population Health Solutions for Accretive Health, a publicly traded company, Director of the Veteran Health Administration's National Center for Quality Management in Public Health, Director of the HIV/AIDS program for the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, Medical Director of the San Francisco Health Plan, a Medicaid managed care plan; and Director of AIDS Health Services for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. She also worked as a medical researcher at UCSF and remains a UCSF affiliated faculty member. Dr. Chang holds a bachelor's degree from Amherst College, a master of public health from the University of California, Berkeley, and a medical doctorate from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons.
