Job Description:
The Coding Analyst performs reviews, audits and codes medical records for the purpose of reimbursement, training, education and compliance using ICD-9 and CPT codes. The Coding Analyst reports directly to the Coding Analyst Lead and the Coding Analyst Manager.
Responsibilities Include:
• Audits and reviews medical documentation for appropriate ICD-9 and CPT coding and documentation
• Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes
• Performs training and education for coding, documentation and claim payment guidelines, as well as addressing problems and issues
• Reviews CPT and ICD-9 codes annually for accuracy and implements changes, including charge ticket update by specialty
• Assists physicians and other providers with questions and problems related to coding, documentation and billing
• Responds to inquiries/training as requested by immediate supervisor
• Follows appropriate polices, procedures and guidelines ensuring compliance with CareMore Medical Enterprises, state, and federal laws, policies and regulations
• Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Brings identified concerns to supervisor for resolution
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
1. Education and/or Experience; High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience
2. Knowledge in medical terminology and anatomy
3. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPC or CCS-P.
4. 1-2 years coding experience preferable.
