Nutritious food is like fuel for your car. Bad quality food or an inadequate nutrition causes your body to run down and fail. Poor diet leaves your body too weak to fight disease and unable to stay healthy.
That’s why CareMore supports the national “Food as Medicine” program.
Healthy food and good nutrition are part of CareMore’s “whole-health” approach to care. Our staff takes care of your medical needs, but we also attend to the emotional and social parts of your life that affect your overall health.
"Food As Medicine" promotes better health and outcomes
As a pioneer in whole-person health and value-based care for complex and chronic disease, CareMore has a strong interest in promoting healthy food and nutrition for its members. Our programs include member education and individual counseling by dietitians, available in the clinic, at home and virtually.
If the patient is not eating a healthy diet or has no access to nutritious food, CareMore offers dietary counseling as part of the overall plan of care. Counseling includes education and practical tips on making healthy food choices and cooking nutritious meals. Dietary plans are customized to the patient’s needs. We follow up to answer questions and ensure the patient is staying on a path of better food choices and healthy eating.
Evidence suggests that Food as Medicine programs work. Positive outcomes for patients include better overall health, sense of self-worth and self-efficacy, positive emotional changes, better management of chronic disease and lower incidence of hospitalization.
